Volunteering Opportunities

The 2026 elections are coming up! Volunteers will wear yellow vests and offer assistance to customers at the DMV Service Center on Melby Street to help them register to vote.

Volunteer will greet DMV customers as they enter and offer to help with updating voter registration online at a dedicated computer kiosk.

Volunteers will staff a table promoting voting, voter registration, and active citizenship through interactive games/challenges, buttons, wallet cards, etc. High school students from several area school districts will be bussed to this Career Expo. Menomonie Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the event. We are one of many area businesses and nonprofits sharing information with students.

Volunteers are expected to be familiar with and to comply with the LWV-GCV Volunteer Code of Conduct on the website at the "About Us" tab/Documents/General Documents/Voting Tools.

We'll educate 17- and 18-year-olds about the importance of voting, assist 18-year-olds with voter registration, aid students to find valuable information through www.myvote.wi.gov and www.vote411.org

The League of Women Voters of the Greater Chippewa Valley hosted a discussion on immigration in May, 2025 that focused on the experiences of immigrants in the Chippewa Valley and employers who need and rely on immigrant labor to conduct their farm operations. The forum on April 28 will build on what we have learned and will focus on due process and community and local law enforcement responses to immigration.

Panelists will include Jordan Hamzawi, Assistant Professor of Political Science and Criminal Justice at UW-Eau Claire, on due process for and detention of immigrants; Dawanna Witt, first woman Sheriff of Hennepin County, MN, who has led the county's public safety operations during a time of intense federal enforcement known as "Operation Metro Surge;" and Dave Riewestahl, Sheriff of Eau Claire County, who will bring the perspective of a Chippewa Valley law enforcement leader.

Volunteers will be needed for set-up (from 4:00-5:00 pm), greeting attendees, distributing and collecting question cards from the audience, and packing up after the event (from 7:00-7:30 pm). The entire event volunteer time is from 4:00pm to 7:30pm.
