Public School Funding 101--What We Citizens Need to Know, Session 1

About this event

Quality, accessible public education is a cornerstone of democracy.  The current conditions and trends with public school funding in Wisconsin are having an impact on the quality and accessibility of education for our children.

Join Chris Hambuch-Boyle, NW Wisconsin organizer for the WI Public Education Network, for a rich and eye-opening intro to how our public schools are funded. In each of two sessions, areas of the State budget for education will be discussed with plenty of time for Q&A.  It will allow participants to connect the dots over time between legislation and public school funding impacts.  Most legislation was and continues to happen without transparency to taxpayers.  You may opt to come to either or both of the sessions.

January 15 event will feature:  The cost of inflationary impacts over the past 18 years and 1993 Revenue Caps…YES, 1993 legislation still impacts the budgets of individual public school districts across the State of Wisconsin.

On February 19, the discussion will feature: Taxpayer funded vouchers for private schools and special education funding in the present 2-year state budget.  The Wisconsin Public Education Network kicked off their Transparency Project last summer at their Green Bay Summer Summit.  You will get up-to-date progress on what communities are doing across the state.

Then on March 3 at 6:00 p.m. at the L.E. Phillips Memorial Library, we'll bring what we've learned to a public forum on public school funding, featuring four Chippewa Valley leaders in public education.  See the LWV-GCV calendar for more information. Please note the "101" zoom sessions may enhance your experience but are NOT a requirement to attend the March 3 public forum.  We hope to see you there!

The more we know, the better we can support public education in our communities.

This free event is open to the public.  Please invite your friends, family members, and colleagues who may be interested!

The League of Women Voters of Greater Chippewa Valley is a nonpartisan organization, supporting neither candidates nor parties.
