The Greater Chippewa Valley Chapter of the League of Women Voters regretfully announces that candidate forums for Wisconsin State Senate District 10 (Patty Schachtner (D) Incumbent, Rob Stafsholt (R); and Assembly Districts 29 (John R Calabrese (D), Clint Moses (R); and 93 (Warren Petryk (R) Incumbent, Charlie Warner (D) will not take place in October. Forum invitations were accepted by the Schachtner, Calabrese, and Warner campaigns, but agreement on scheduling could not be reached with their opponents. League of Women Voters Wisconsin candidate forum rules stipulate that single-candidate forums cannot be held.
Recent Wisconsin Public Radio debates with candidates for Assembly Districts 29 and 93 are available at:
https://www.wpr.org/programs/west-side. A Senate District 10 debate is scheduled to air on this series on October 16.
In preparation for the forums, LWV-GCV solicited voter’s questions to be put before the candidates. Questions received cover a wide variety of issues and concerns including water quality, clean energy, recycling, climate change, Medicaid expansion, mental health services for Western Wisconsin, redistricting, state sales, gas and property taxes, covid/post-covid economic recovery,
Wisconsin’s brain drain and aging workforce, Black Lives Matter, outside PAC money in local campaigns, school referenda and state funding for education.
The League thanks all those in the community who submitted questions.
